My research combines global kilometre-scale modelling, observations and theory to understand the dynamic coupling between convection and circulation. A particular focus is on the interaction between tropical convection and atmospheric waves. As of 2019, I am leading a Minerva-Fast-Track research group at the Max Planck Institute for Meteorology in Hamburg, Germany. Prior to joining the Max Planck Institute, I worked on global teleconnection patterns at the National Centre for Atmospheric Science at the University of Reading, UK, after obtaining my PhD from the University of Colorado at Boulder, USA. Prior to pursuing a career in atmospheric science, I studied theoretical high-energy physics at the University of Bonn.
