I am a climate scientist who focuses on identifying the drivers and mechanisms of observed climate change. I have identified the influence of greenhouse gases on temperature, and my recent work has shown that human influences have changed global precipitation patterns and the probability of weather extremes.
I co-lead the World Climate Research program’s grand challenge on extreme events, and I have had key roles in scientific assessments of climate change (IPCC). I am a fellow of the Royal Society (of London and Edinburgh), the Leopoldina, the American Geophysical Union and the American Meteorological Society.
